At New Covenant School, our campus location here in Lexington, MA places us in a strategic hub of technology and scientific research. Students in grades K–5 are invited into a unique learning experience where creativity, curiosity, and faith come together through Invention Education. Our program goes beyond traditional STEM by equipping students to think critically, solve real-world problems, and see innovation as a way to serve God and others.

Through meaningful partnerships with leading organizations such as Lemelson-MIT Program, Partners in Invention Education, TrekAI, and the Massachusetts Invention Convention, our students engage in a nationally recognized approach to invention-based learning, right here in the classroom.

A Faith-filled Vision for STEM & Invention Education

Our STEM and Invention Education program is rooted in a deeper purpose: helping students become thoughtful problem solvers shaped by the mind of Christ. Rather than simply learning concepts, students are challenged to identify real needs in the world around them and develop creative, practical solutions.

This approach aligns closely with our Daniel Model, which encourages students to engage with the world in meaningful ways, just as Daniel did, using wisdom, discernment, and faith. In this context, innovation becomes more than an academic exercise; it becomes a way to live out one’s calling.

Learning Through Real-World Problem Solving

In the classroom, invention education comes to life through hands-on, collaborative experiences. Students work through the engineering design process, learning how to ask questions, test ideas, and refine their thinking.

Whether designing a prototype, exploring new technologies, or working through a group challenge, students are consistently encouraged to:

  • Think critically about problems

  • Collaborate with peers

  • Apply STEM knowledge in practical ways

  • Reflect on how their ideas can help others

These experiences build confidence and resilience, helping students see challenges not as obstacles, but as opportunities for growth and service.

A Nationally Recognized Program

New Covenant School is proud to be a Silver Partner in Invention Education through the Lemelson-MIT Program, a distinction that reflects our commitment to high-quality, innovative learning.

We are also:

  • Active participants in the Massachusetts Invention Convention and regional invention conventions

  • Among a growing network of schools advancing invention education across New England

  • The first school in the nation to integrate Lemelson-MIT curriculum across all K–5 grade levels

These opportunities allow students to share their ideas, present their inventions, and gain real-world experience as young innovators. See how one NCS student advanced to the National Invention Convention with her invention "Mighty Suction Holders", designed to prevent chairs from tipping backwards, here.

Developing the Next Generation of Thinkers and Creators

By integrating invention education into our curriculum, we are intentionally nurturing students who are not only academically prepared, but also purpose-driven. Students begin to understand that their creativity and abilities are gifts from God, tools that can be used to make a meaningful impact.

As they grow, they learn to approach the world with curiosity, compassion, and confidence. They become students who ask thoughtful questions, pursue creative solutions, and seek to serve others through their ideas.

Preparing Students for a Changing World

In today’s rapidly evolving world, the ability to think critically and innovate is more important than ever. At New Covenant School, we believe these skills are best developed within a framework of faith, character, and purpose.

Our Invention Education program prepares students not only for academic success, but for lives of meaningful contribution. By combining STEM learning with spiritual formation, we are equipping the next generation to become faithful stewards of their God-given talents, ready to transform the world through inspired problem-solving.
